Strong Hair, Glowing Skin, Resilient Nails — Feed Your Beauty

🌿 The Key to Healthy Hair, Skin & Nails

True beauty starts deep within — in the way we nourish our bodies. Our ancestors thrived on whole, unprocessed foods from the land, sea, and pasture — rich in the nutrients that build strong hair, supple skin, and beautiful nails.

Working behind the chair for over a decade, I discovered the women that ate a balanced diet of both animal & plant foods had the strongest, thickest hair, radiant skin and perfect nails.

Our hair, skin & nails are not top priority for our body’s function. Chances are if you’re lacking nutrients, the red flags you’ll start to see is in your skin & nails, then your hair. This is because your body, in it’s divine design, is focusing on what truly matters for your well being. While so many other factors play a role (I’ll dive deeper into that in another post), this is the best place to start for glowing beauty.

This is not medical advice or meant to be followed strictly, just my view & philosophy on a vibrate appearance. As with any of my blog posts & offerings, take what resonates & feels right for you.

1️⃣ Prioritize (Nose-to-Tail) Protein

  • Hair, skin, and nails are built from keratin & collagen — abundant in high-quality animal proteins. Aim for a palm-sized serving at each meal: eggs, fish, beef or lean poultry. If animal proteins aren’t your thing, beans & lentils are great substitutes.

  • Choose pastured eggs, grass-fed meats, wild-caught fish, and organ meats like liver for vitamin A, B vitamins, and minerals. (Of course not everyone wants to eat organ meats but there are plenty of resources from premade ancestral blends to supplements.)

  • Add collagen-rich foods like bone broth, slow-cooked stews, and fish skin for skin elasticity & joint health.

2️⃣ Seasonal Plants — Nature’s Antioxidant Shield

  • Eat local, seasonal vegetables and fruits for maximum nutrient density.

  • Dark leafy greens in spring, berries in summer, root vegetables in winter — the variety ensures a spectrum of beauty-protective antioxidants.

  • Berries, leafy greens, sweet potatoes, and peppers help fight free radicals that damage skin and hair.

3️⃣ Healthy Ancestral Fats

  • Our ancestors prized nutrient-dense fats: pastured butter, tallow, ghee, egg yolks, olive oil, avocado, nuts, and seeds.

  • Omega-3-rich fish and grass-fed meats reduce inflammation for healthier skin and stronger hair follicles.

  • Plant based fats like chia seeds, flaxseeds, walnuts, or avocado keep skin hydrated, hair shiny, and nails less brittle.

4️⃣ Slow-Burning Carbs

  • Instead of refined flours, choose traditional carbs: sourdough bread, root vegetables, winter squashes, properly prepared grains and legumes (soaked, sprouted, or fermented for easier digestion and better mineral absorption).

  • Whole grains (quinoa, oats, brown rice) and starchy veggies for steady energy and B vitamins — vital for hair growth.

5️⃣ Mineral-Rich Additions

  • Seaweed for iodine and trace minerals, raw dairy for calcium, fermented foods (sauerkraut, kefir, kimchi) for gut health — because beauty starts with digestion.

  • Nuts, seeds, and shellfish for zinc, selenium, and copper — all key in keratin formation.

    • Zinc: pumpkin seeds, oysters, beef — for repair & growth.

    • Selenium: Brazil nuts, seafood, shiitake mushrooms  — trace mineral that acts like a powerful antioxidant, protecting your cells from stress and damage.

    • Copper: shellfish, organic meats, dark chocolate  — helps your body make collagen and elastin, two proteins that keep skin smooth and firm.

6️⃣ Hydration — Beyond Just Water

  • Bone broth, herbal infusions, and mineral-rich spring water replenish electrolytes for plump, hydrated skin.

  • Cucumber, melon, and citrus naturally help the body retain hydration.

  • Vitamin C: citrus, kiwi, bell peppers — for collagen production.

When we return to simple, whole, and ancestral-inspired foods, we’re not just feeding our bodies — we’re nourishing our glow. Every plate is an opportunity to support stronger hair, radiant skin, and resilient nails, while also honoring the rhythms of nature and the wisdom of those before us. Beauty doesn’t have to be complicated — it begins with how you choose to nourish yourself each day.

Stay rooted,

Haylee
